It can be tough to decide when it’s the right time to hire a social media manager. If you’re just starting your business, money might be tight, or you might still have enough bandwidth to handle social media on your own. At some point as your company grows, it will make sense to invest in some extra help. Here are 3 signs that it’s time to hire a social media manager:
1. You don’t have time
As a business-owner there will come a time when your business has grown too big to run on your own, and you’ll have to hire employees to make sure your business can operate smoothly. Hiring employees is usually a logical step in a business lifecycle, but why is it sometimes so difficult to enlist help with social media? Some business-owners feel like they should be able to carve out time to post a few times a week, but quite often social media will start slip through the cracks, or posts will get shared haphazardly without purpose and direction. If you feel like your plate is full, and that social media is taking a back seat to other responsibilities, it might be time to hire a social media manager.
2. Posting isn’t consistent
If you’re a business-owner with a lot on your plate, even if you have time for social media, it might be challenging to develop a posting cadence that you can stick to. Oftentimes business-owners will share on socials when they remember to. Sometimes that will look like sharing 5 times a week, and other times it’ll slip your mind for weeks at a time. If you’re having trouble posting 3-5 times per week, it might be time to hire a social media manager.
3. You aren’t seeing results
Even if you’re able to find the time to post consistently, you still might not be seeing results. Trends are constantly changing on social media. When you’re running a social media account, you not only have to develop and post content regularly, but you also have to research and utilize changing features and trends. If you aren’t staying on top of current trends, your social media won’t perform nearly as well as it could.
If you aren’t seeing results, it also might be because you haven’t taken the time to develop and implement an intentional social media strategy. When you work with a social media manager, they should break down your goals into specific objectives and KPIs and have a plan on how to reach those goals. They should also track analytics and know exactly when to double down on content that works or switch up content that isn’t performing as well. Unless you have a well-developed social media strategy and regularly track key metrics, it might be time to hire a social media manager.
Hiring a social media manager won’t be the right move for every business, but in most cases it’s a great opportunity to free up time and capitalize on a key marketing channel. If you resonated with any of the signs above, you should definitely consider hiring a social media manager to take your business to the next level!
