Many would argue that the photo or video is the most important part of an Instagram post, but if that’s the case – why do we spend so much time staring at the screen, trying to think of the perfect caption? The truth is, no matter how compelling your visual content is, without a strong caption your post won’t reach a fraction of the audience that it could. The Instagram algorithm promotes posts with high engagement, so crafting a caption that engages your audience can help you grow your accounts like never before! Let’s take a look at the three elements that can take your captions to the next level:

1. Hook your audience

You should always try to hook your audience early on. If your audience doesn’t quickly see the importance of reading your caption, they won’t be compelled to continue. You could hook your audience by stating a shocking fact, offering a helpful tip, or asking a question. Asking your audience a question they can relate to, or that they feel compelled to answer in the comments, will both hook your audience and help boost engagement numbers! Once your audience is hooked, then you can dive into the body of your caption and speak to any information you want to share.

2. End with a Call-To-Action

You should always finish your caption with a Call-To-Action. If your audience has read to the end of your message, that means you have their attention, and shouldn’t waste it. Let your viewers know what next steps they can take to further engage with your account or brand. This might be a request to follow your account to see more helpful content or asking people to visit your website and browse your products. Calls-To-Action can be anything that helps you or your company get new clients, customers, or followers, and should always be included. Bonus points if you can give your audience a reason why they should follow your Call-To-Action!

3. Use Hashtags

No caption is complete without the use of hashtags. Some people choose to post their hashtags in the comments section of their post instead of in the caption. Regardless of where you prefer to post them, you should never skip adding hashtags to your post. Hashtags serve a couple different purposes. First, they enable your post to show up on users’ feeds who are following any one of the hashtags on your post. This is an easy way to get in front of Instagram users who aren’t already following you. Second, they let Instagram know what your post is about and the algorithm is better able to push your post to users who may be interested in what you have to share. Again, another great way to get your content in front of users who aren’t already following you. Taking advantage of hashtags is an easy way to expand your reach and grow your audience.

With these elements in play on your captions, you’re sure to engage your audience and grow your Instagram profile in no time!
