Do you spend hours creating and posting social media content but never seem to get the results you want? If you feel like you’re doing everything right – posting consistently, using hashtags, etc. – but you just can’t seem to grow your follower count or accomplish your other social media goals, it’s probably because your posts aren’t engaging enough. Engagement is very important for the Instagram algorithm, and most other social media platform algorithms too. If you aren’t getting the engagement numbers that you want, there are a few things you can do to quickly raise your numbers.
1. Know your audience
If you haven’t already gotten clear on what your niche is and what your ideal audience looks like, don’t do anything until you have. Many people think that narrowing down their target audience will exclude people who may be interested in their product or service, but it actually does the opposite. Targeting anyone with an interest in your industry leaves you competing against every single company in your industry. Defining a specific audience can help you eliminate 99% of your competition and start sharing messaging that is consistent and relatable every time. Once you get clear on who exactly your audience is, all you have to do to create engaging content is think about what problems your audience may be facing and how your product or service can help solve those problems.
2. Keep up with current trends
Social media is constantly changing, and knowing which platform features to utilize is an important part of engaging your audience. For example, Reels are a relatively new feature on Instagram and Facebook that have quickly become extremely popular. You can post photos on your feed every day, craft extremely engaging captions, and do everything “right,” but unless Reels are a part of your Instagram and Facebook strategy, you won’t see the results you want. If you want to meet your audience where they are and hit your engagement numbers, it’s important to keep up with changing trends and new features.
3. Ask your audience questions
It’s much easier for your audience to engage with your content if you ask them questions. Look for ways to include questions in your captions and encourage people to comment on your posts. Also look for ways to utilize stickers on your stories. By adding emoji sliders, polls, and question stickers to your stories, you can ask your followers to share their opinions. This is an easy way to encourage quick engagement.
4. Create quality content
This almost goes without saying, but if you want to develop engaging content, you must spend an appropriate amount of time and effort brainstorming content ideas and creating quality photos, videos, and graphics. If your content isn’t eye-catching and well-made, your intended audience will scroll right past your posts. Don’t rush through the process of content creation, and look for ways to be creative and stand out.
